Thought I would share my present workout. I would love to post other people’s workouts on here as well so please feel free to message if you’d like to share yours or have someone who’s workout you recommend.

There’s volumes of workout material that can be consumed online but I thought my workout might be relevant to other 30-year-olds looking to get in shape and switch it up a bit.

First of all, the trick is to work out everyday. If you work out everyday — for me it has to be in the morning or it definitely just will not happen — then you will 100% look and feel good in no time at all. Consistency is everything.

I work on a 5 day cycle:

Day 1: Push

Day 2: Pull

Day 3: Legs

Day 4: Cardio

Day 5: Yoga

I alternate weeks as well. The first week I will do at the park or on the beach at one of those workout stations you might see — but you can do this in the gym as well.

Week 1 is low weight (mostly bodyweight) and high reps. Lots of reps. This is to focus on the slow twitch fibers that are the first muscle fibers to contract when you do aerobic-style exercise, and working them increases stamina and oxygen capacity of muscles.

Week 2 is high weight low reps. This is to work on the fast twitch muscle fibers that improve muscle mass and muscle strength.

You can do this all on one day if you wanted — i.e. if you wanted to do high weight low rep exercises at the beginning of the push workout and then low weight high rep exercises at the end, you would accomplish hitting all the twitch fibers you need. I personally like to break it up into weeks and alternate my setting — it’s a nice change of pace.

Push day involves exercises like presss, fly, dips, and pushups. Anything that you’re….pushing.

Pull day involves….that’s right, pulling. Pullups, rows, pulldowns, that kind of thing.

Leg day involves squats, lunges, calf raises, glute stuff, jumping….on the legs, you nincompoops!

Cardio I alternate between — rowing machine, running barefoot in the sand on the beach (low impact — I have a bad back), boxing on the heavy bag, and using the elliptical or some other machine.

Yoga is…..yoga.

After the cycle is done I pick it up again new the very next day.

No rest days except on my weekly sabbath! Life throws enough wrenches in your plans to properly provide rest days (had to go to the DMV, flat tire, head cold, whatever), so there’s no need to create your own. Again, part of this is just consuming the mentality of being a person who does something every day, even if it’s just one push or pull exercise.

Good practice for doing something hard every day? Take a cold shower.

What are your workouts?
